Of maintenance days and kid weekends

Had a very mom-weekend with Adam doing maintenance for an NGO in town this weekend, so have not seen much of him. It's tough having two kids on your own for a whole weekend, especially when Luke wakes up at 5am on Sunday morning (not usual, thank the Lord). Have to admit I was very grrrr by the time Adam walked in this evening at 6. Poor guy, he worked his butt off tiling a very manky bathroom for homeless people. I'm proud of him. It's a big sacrifice on his behalf too, missing kids and coming home with grouted knees tonight, and skinned hands from the tile glue yesterday.

The weather has been good so both kids have sprinted for the garden, and then spend most of their time digging up my veggie patch (mud pies, mommy) and the rest of the time between the tap in the courtyard fetching water for the said mud pies. Some big arguments over who gets which bucket (both exactly the same colour and size). The arguments ended with Luke throwing water on Jessica. Wails!  Hee hee. Had to stop my grin. And then had to really scold him when he tossed a spadeful of veggie garden over her too. He had the most angelic wide Lukey-grin you ever saw.

Sigh. Poor Jessica. She, on the other hand, got promoted to a slightly higher bed last night. So she took a running leap at bedtime and landed on the bed, skidded across and disappeared into the gap on the other side. Wail. I must admit I laughed out loud at that one! Then there were monsters under her bed (where did she hear about them?!!!) and a mouse (which Adam had to evict, several times), oh, and crocodiles. I told her that the mouse was having supper with daddy after the third eviction. That sorted the mouse. Then we had a serious talk about Jesus and dinosaurs (big white teeth mommy) and monsters, and she was slightly consoled that they are scared of Jesus and all she has to do is call His name and He will come and chase them away.

That's it for this one. I have to retro-blog (is that the right term?) and fill in all the gaps. Don't think I have even put up Luke's party pics yet, and Jessica has just had her party. Sigh. At least this is being posted.

Last thing I have to capture: the dooong dooong aeroplane which flies whoosh high high in the sky. Uncle Stuart is flying it. Lots of stories and discussions about it lately. Jessica does love her planes!
