Yip, 'tis happening. Maybe best explained via the smses that went back and forth between a little girl and her grandma...
Dear Jessica I hear that you r going 2 the doctor 2day. I know that you wil b brave & good. But if he gives you any grief kick him in the shins with your croc shoes. Sorry your dollhouse is stuff is taking so long. We're working on it. Hugs 4 Lukey & Mummy. Tons of love from your Grandma xxx
In response:
Dear Grandma, mom keeps making me eat cottage pie when i don't want to. Maybe that's why i have to go to the doc. I have new heart shoes that i wear everywhere. I'll wear them to the doc. Lots of love, Jessica
After the appointment, written with green smears around her mouth and sticky fingers:
Dear Grandma, dont tell mum i am using her phone. The doc gave me a sucker even tho i had to go wee in the middle of the appt. My ears are blocked and i ama bit deaf. I am having gromits on Monday. The doc was old but nice. Love Jessica
Overheard that night when Mum discussed the day with Dad:
So Luke fell asleep in the car on the way to the doctor. I carried him in (still asleep) and put him down on the couch where he rolled over and slept the sleep of the very small for an hour while we waited. Jessica raided the toys, then discovered the bathroom outside in a lovely courtyard (3 trips to the toilet later), then progressed onto reading ALL the books including Heidi (which had to be translated from Afrikaans into English - I thought I did quite well). When we did get in to see the doctor, Jessica hid behind my chair and it took lots of coaxing and a green sucker to allow a peep into her ears. Did I mention that we had just got settled in and started talking when Jessica announced that she needed ANOTHER wee? Luke had woken up by then, so he spent his time exploring and toddled off with my sunglasses and hid them which entailed a treasure hunt round the office as we were being ushered out the door. I'm not entirely sure what the doc thought of us, though we are seeing him bright and early on Monday for an op to put in grommets and remove adenoids. Not really looking forward to it, but am looking forward to the difference it will make to Jessica.
