9 weeks to go... camping!

Well, we made the most of the long weekend and took Monday off to extend 3 days to 5. Sleeping in on Friday morning, we had a leisurely start to the day and left a very rainy Cape Town to head north east. Du Toit's kloof pass was simply awe-inspiring as white water tumbled down every possible hillside. Thankfully the rain let up as we moved east, and we arrived in a damp but not-raining Montagu at about 3pm.

Mike and Nic arrived just after us, and Gus and Els had already started putting up their 3-room palace at the Boma, on the far side of De Bos guestfarm (www.debos.co.za). The night roared in with a chilly wind, but a festive camp fire scared away some of the cold. Our down sleeping bags ensured that we were snug, although Nic had a colder moment with his summer bag and blankets.

Saturday was all about climbing for the day, and so the boys (Mike, Nic and Adam) disappeared towards Bosch Crag. Gus and Els took the kiddies to Badkloof, and I elected to check out Montagu on market day, and found some great cheese at the farmer's market down town, before joining the boys to take some pics. Mark and Eva arrived with their 3 kids to join us later that afternoon.

On Sunday it was epic time for Mike, Nic and Adam who headed to Cogman's kloof to do a 6 pitch sport route. Nic came back early, but Mike and Adam met up with some MCSA guys and had a festive day out on the high walls. Leigh was in town for a wedding, so came over to the campsite to visit. We found a sunny spot, made tea and talked and talked. Lovely! With fresh hot bread and farmstall jam for lunch, we dined out in style along with Nic. All the littlies were out until about 2pm when the campsite got rather rowdy. Mike and Adam made it back around 4pm and once again, the braai was built and we munched at the table under the boma.

Monday morning dawned misty but promising, and the whole party headed to Badkloof for a day out climbing. With 5 children, 7 adults, and the MCSA crowd, Badkloof was a very social place to be. Lots of good climbing, some yelling from Daniel (2 years old with a bad cold, so he was not the happiest of kids), and photo opportunities all round made for a memorable day. When we finally got back to De Bos, Gus, Eva, Tristan, Bina and I enjoyed a dip in the warm baths at Avalon Springs hotel. The Bump handled the supertube easily, and the hot jets of water were sublime.

And sadly, on Tuesday morning we had to head home. Not without a single track cycle for Adam, Gus and Eva round Montagu though. It was back to CT for a quick unpack and the last antenatal class. Kate taught us how to look after babies, breastfeed, and what to look out for when it comes to feeding problems and postnatal depression. A last opportunity to ask questions, and now we are on our own...
