The curtains for the baby's room sadly did not get made as we ran out of time, though Mum measured out the material and showed me how to put it all together. However, the curtains in our bedroom did get hemmed finally - thanks to Mum who zipped them in straight lines through the sewing machine. I tried to hem one and my hem is rather skew. Hmph.
Cape Town treated us to the coldest weather in about 50 years this past weekend. We had heavy downpours of rain throughout Saturday and Sunday, and had to find a bucket to put under a broken tile over the guest room. After Saturday night we emptied approximately 3 litres of water out of it! Most of the roof appears to be intact, though our bathroom roof leaked and there are suspicions of damp in the lounge which may be because we need to put up a gutter on that side. However, compared to what the house was like when we moved in, this is relative victory :)
The past two days have been spent getting quotes for a new driveway gate. Yup, it looks like a camel humping its way along the rails as the bottom rail finally rusted through in protest. It's timing is impeccable: our aged vacuum cleaner died a quiet death on Sunday night. Adam asked it to vacuum dust out of the roof when he put in the conduit for the light over the front door. Earnest attempts at a resus did not succeed. Even an internal op with multiple tools made no difference. We threatened it with the broom. To no avail. If you think of it, it was of unknown old age when we got it, and we've had it for 6 years already. Not a bad innings. Hmm... it's a bit of a toss up as to which comes first, but I think the gate may win (beating baby and vacuum cleaner in that order). I'll keep you "posted" on the utility "opening".
Note: our Sharky dustbuster has come into it’s own, and there may soon be a war between it and the broom, which is finally out of the closet and sweeping madly. Sharky wins outright when it comes to carpets though :) And yay for home helpers who come in once a week!
