Bushmans River

Our four days at Addo ended with a final encounter on the last steep downhill to the coastal road: the ultimate tusker blocking the exit. Add in some squeaky brakes, a trailer on the back that we could not reverse, a small girl stressing in the back seat and a smaller boy shouting "why is he in the road mom?" at the top of his voice... Universal "shhh" sounds all round!

Mr T (for tusker, and he did have lovely long tusks) strongly resembled the ellie that toppled some hapless tourist's car a few months back. Check it out on YouTube. Mr T was determined to use the road. So we sat as quietly as we could and tried not to breathe ("Ssssshshshshshhhhhh Luke!).

I think I could have touched his tummy as he loomed over us. I definitely heard his tum rumble. But his feet were totally silent, despite the "however many" tons of pachyderm on the move.

Jessica breathed out as we finally left the park and stated "I DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANOTHER ELEPHANT AGAIN." Firmly.

Then up the coast road to our one night camping spot at Bushman's River campsite. We checked out Port Alfred on the way, enjoying chicken pies on the boardwalk.

Bushmans is a rustic old village that is sprawled out on either side of the river mouth. Our spot was out of the wind and relatively quiet as it was the day before Good Friday. The perfect spot for some serious card games! Seems the sharks travel in a two pack in our family...
