So, it all started one Saturday morning when we wondered what we were going to do today.No plans for the weekend. So, coffee in hand and the grass still damp in the early morning, we wandered out to the back garden and started talking tree houses. And we talked, and then Adam pulled out the iPad and a new drawing app he had been wanting to try out, and he started to draw. Well, not an artwork by any means... but we could tell that the squiggles meant branches and the straight bits meant platform.
Then we grabbed the Places to Play book that Gail had given us which has been such a wonderful source of inspiration for all things "kid", and made some notes. On the way back to the kitchen, Adam pulled out some wood that Dunx and Jules gave us a while back, and then two brackets that came from a work revamp throwout (thanks Carla). And we were in business!
Two weekends later, and one Wednesday afternoon too, we had our own treehouse up and solid. We tested it as we want to park off outside too with coffee in the mornings, not just leave the kids to have full run of the structure. (It does look like the gap we left for a slide may be an urgent gap as Luke is great at getting up on the ladder I found, but not at climbing down).
I have to say that there was a lot of reuse/recycle in the whole thing, including an old concrete brick that saved us putting down concrete slabs etc for the one free support. And since the treehouse has now stood the test of time and lots of kids, and is still standing, I'm guessing that that brick is going to hold. (I hope?!) But so satisfying to have planned, built and used in just 2 weekends! And in time for Luke's 2nd birthday too...
