And Lukey-Pookie turns two!

And our boy turns TWO... with some of the twosomeness arriving right on time. "I do it" and "no!" and "NO!"  BTW, it's Jessica who calls him Lukey-Pookie: he is alternatively known as the Lukester, Squiddles, Lukey-Loo and "small and squawky boy".

The party was great fun. Adam's description was "Collective noun for kids - CHAOS!" and that sums it up pretty well. We had 8 little friends invited, but then they brought siblings so in the end I think we had closer to 18 kids in our back garden. With a theme only decided the night before, it was an adventureland. Some boxes from an appliance store made for much delight and lots of noise, and Adam's zipline from the tree house to the corner of the garden was a huge hit, even for the littlies who hung on with chubby fingers and deep concentration. The landing was soft grass - thankfully, since one shorty took to leaping for the handle as he could not quite reach it, and plateaued out with some force!

Then there was water with bubbles, a dino treasure hunt and story (lots of ROAOAOAOAR) and the moment everyone was waiting for: THE CAKE. Yes, it was a dino icecream cake with smartie decorations as Luke's two favourite foods (apart from olives) are ice cream and smarties. Needless to say the cake vanished really fast on a hot afternoon, and was worth the moment of humour failure at 9pm the night before when a certain husband told me it looked like a prehistoric beaver, and nothing like a dinosaur!

So that was a fun Saturday, and on Birthday Morning, Mr Luke arose early as is his custom, but was taken through to the lounge where the pile of pressies had been dropped off the night before. The priceless comment: "Yook, Stuff!"  We had a lovely start to the morning opening and playing with pressies one by one, and then had a Skype call to grandparents. In the evening we went to Kirstenbosch, and relaxed on the slopes of TM, watching the last rays of Luke's birthday rose-colour the peaks and counting eagles soaring to the left of Newlands Buttress. Magic.
