27/28 weeks - Easter in Cape Town

Easter was a lovely break for us. We had a great weekend at home in Cape Town – after two weekends out, it was so nice to just be at home, rest and explore our beautiful surroundings.

Easter started with a church service on Friday morning, then a long walk with friends in Cecilia Forest on Table Mountain, and finished with videos in bed (how lazy!).

On Saturday morning we got up early to watch the Two Oceans marathon runners come past. What a hectic run to do - at the 8km mark where we stood, the front runners came through at a fast sprint while the tail enders were already puffing a bit. Respect!

After some breakfast, Adam returned to the pit: he’s digging out the giant strelitzia that has pushed over the wall between us and the neighbour. It’s taken four weekends to get the darn thing out, plus a chisel, sledgehammer, spade and lots of blisters. But, it’s done, and here are some pics of Adam, thigh-deep in the resultant hole, and Timone, the neighbour’s very large pig.

Timone loves sticking his nose through the hole to see what is going on, goes for walks with the 6 small dogs that live next door, and seems to be house-trained.

Timone is a very social suburban creature, although we have heard he’s going to a farm soon as he’s rather large to have around the house by now!

Paddling is in!

As you can imagine, it took quite a lot to get Adam out of bed on Sunday morning, but we made it to church on time for the Easter service and hot cross buns. Then we headed out to Simon’s Town to meet up with friends and go sea-kayaking. Bump and I squeeeeeeeezed into a wetsuit, and did a successful launch out through the breakers into the sea (much to my surprise), and joined Madelyn. Adam and Paul swam out to join us and so the girls paddled slowly to Boulders Beach, with the boys swimming behind us. We found a quiet spot to picnic, stripped off and warmed up a bit, watched the antics of the penguins, and then launched out again to paddle/swim back. This time round Madelyn swam, while Adam paddled. Paul and I went on ahead, and I landed to give the kayak back to Paul who took it out to Madelyn. Despite being a bit nervous initially, it was really great and I enjoyed every minute!

I’m not sure what Bump thought of all this, because there were very few kicks during the paddling. However, Bump made up for the quiet time on the drive home (thump, thump, squirm).

And then, on Monday we slept in, made a yummy breakfast, did some house stuff. Adam went climbing in the afternoon and I met some pregnant friends for tea at Rhodes Memorial (luxury!) and a lovely view of Cape Town. It was super-relaxing, and we finished off the weekend by meeting old Jhb friends for pizza and a chat.

Just a note, one of the pregnant friends that I had tea with on Monday popped on Tuesday morning. Successful birth, but it does show that babies can come at any time with little prior warning!
