Cookie meditations on a rainy day

A snickerdoodle went out to play
Away to the cookie rack on the counter one day
What do they look like? Don't you know!
Why, they are brown all over with tops like snow.

Caramelised tops from cookies above
Squidgy soft centres of gooey yum love
And two shy eyes with hardly a nose.
Yes, where there's a cookie rack, a Snickerdoodle goes!

And that's what happened one memorable day
Little Jessica K saw that Snickerdoodle play
She saw him jump, squirm and spin
When the flour came out the bin

She saw his hop of excited delight
When the sugar was held up to the light
Then he wiggled and started to grin
Smelling fresh butter starting to spin

Jessica watched with a smile (and a little taste too)
The scrummy delicious cookie-like goo
Whizzing round and round in that big dish
Jessica knew she'd got her cookie wish!

Finally the balls were flattened on trays
And that's when the Doodle planned his sneaky forays
For as soon as the cookies came out of the oven
That Doodle hit cookie-smell heaven!

Caramelising the top of his head,
He grabbed a hot crumb, halloo'd and said:
"Jessica dear, it's the BEST bit of all
Burning your fingers to share cookies with all!"
