Merry Christmas to you all!

Christmas 2008... Mum and Dad flew down for four wonderful days of just relaxing and being together in Cape Town.

Of course, the Munchkin / Pumpkin (aka Jessica Katherine) was the apple of all of our eyes! A runaway Santa in her stripy PJs, she took her personal tree for a walk one evening.

Christmas morning dawned bright and early: more so for Adam and I than for years as we both woke up around 5.30 and then could not go back to sleep! Reminiscent of a childhood where you wake up as early as possible to see what Santa brings you! On this morning I got a box of Sally Williams nougat (oh yeah - yummmm) and Adam got the newest Popular Mechanics mag. We respectively sank back into bed with coffee and cookies and read until it was way past time to get up! Our early morning plans for pressies around the tree before church were scuppered: so we gave Jessica her bottle in bed with Granny and Grandad and migrated all the pressies to their bed which rapidly filled with wrapping paper and Jessica's many toys.

We did make it to church (albeit 10 minutes late) and then headed to Dave and Bridget in Somerset West for a wonderful Christmas lunch. The weather was thankfully cooler for my 7-month pregnant body which has been taking strain when it's been so hot. It was also a real treat to not have to cook! Bridget put on an Irish spread with all the trimmings which was absolutely delicious and left me wishing I had more space to tuck into seconds of everything (except the roasted onions and parsnips, I do have to admit).

Our gift to Jessica was her sandpit. It started construction at the beginning of the Christmas holidays and we finished it on the 27th. Using railway sleepers left in the garden, and 10 bags of sand, a lot of digging, incorporating a climbing wall and seat against the garden wall, it was a definite hit with the small person.

And her dad! Though Jessica does tend to bash down any sand art or construction you try to make!

There were lots of muddy feet over the weekend, as seen below...

Adam made full use of his newly-constructed tool cabinet in the workshop, the material for which was his birthday present earlier in the year...

And then there was time in the hammock, the pool and the shell which has become Jessica's paddling pool. And let me not forget to mention her new swing (from Grandad and Granny) that had her begging "whee? whee?"

It was with a sad heart that I waved Mum and Dad off in a Cape Town downpour today - the next time we see them will be when the KFK has arrived. We were so spoiled to have them with us for these four days. Thanks for coming!! We love you lots.
